Earth tremor, aftershock felt in parts of Joburg

The Council for Geoscience has confirmed an earth tremor in parts of Johannesburg on Saturday evening.

The council's Mahlatse Mononela says the tremor was followed by a 1.6 magnitude aftershock.
"We can confirm that an earth tremor occurred yesterday at around 18h26. The epicentre was located around Diepkloof, south of Johannesburg.
"It was then followed by an aftershock that was felt 3.9 km from the epicentre, measuring 1.6 magnitude.”
Meanwhile, Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says no injuries have been reported.
"The tremor was reported in Soweto, Naturena, and surrounding areas. At this stage, no injuries or major incidents were reported overnight.
"Residents are urged to be safe.”
