Eersterust Police station attacked

The local police station in Eersterust in the north east of Tshwane - came under attack on Thursday evening.
The building was damaged and looted during the second day of violent protests by residents demanding better service delivery.
Sixteen suspects have been arrested, twelfth of whom police say can be directly linked to the attack.

Documents, a computer, a plasma TV and a service firearm were stolen from the police station with law enforcement agencies only able to recover the appliances.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters confirmed that the documents stolen were not police dockets.
"Police are investigating, we believe that it could be criminal elements capitalising on the current service delivery protest. These criminals have attacked the police station and even on Wednesday evening they looted some shops."

On Thursday, Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga held a press briefing, saying while the City is serious about keeping its commitments to the residents of Eersterust, there is not enough space to build more houses in the area.
