EFF calls for another probe into Phala Phala saga
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The EFF has called on Parliament to establish another inquiry into the Phala Phala saga involving President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The call comes after Ramaphosa said he will no longer challenge the findings of an independent panel set up by Parliament.
The panel found that there was prima facie evidence that Ramaphosa had violated his oath of office during and following the robbery at his Phala Phala farm in Limpopo in February 2020.
But the National Assembly voted against adopting the report, leading to Ramaphosa saying it has no basis in law.
Speaking in parliament on Wednesday EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu says Ramaphosa must not think the issue will just disappear.
"That report, which is not disputed by anyone, says that there was more foreign currency concealed in the sofa, more than the amount reflected in the acknowledgement of receipt."
"Let us get a proper inquiry. Let us deal with it and let us confront it. We can’t hide it under the sofa forever, also, you are not going to be in office [president] forever. Just confront your sins and demons now, this issue is not going to disappear, we are still here."
