EFF wants answers on Dlamini-Zuma VIP protection
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) is demanding the withdrawal of VIP protection for African National Congress (ANC) MP Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
Dlamini-Zuma is a former African National Congress (ANC) presidential candidate.
The EFF wants the state to withdraw the protective service within the next seven days.
In a letter written to Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, EFF secretary general Godrich Gardee labeled the VIP protection services for Dlamini-Zuma as "political patronage, nepotism and corruption."
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is in charge of supplying the protection.
"Failure which, we will approach the court for an order for the withdrawal and not only will the costs be awarded against you in person but all the expenditure flowing from the provision," Gardee wrote in the letter.
The SAPS mandate provides protection to the president and deputy president of the Republic of South Africa, former presidents, foreign heads of state and their spouses.
Dlamini-Zuma is the former head of the African Union.
Mbalula spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says they will respond to the EFF's concerns in Parliament.
