Eskom pulls out of protest-hit Diepsloot, Marlboro
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Eskom in Gauteng has announced that it had withdrawn services in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg amid violent community protests.
Residents are protesting over the lack of visible policing in the area following the murder of a community leader.
Eskom has also withdrawn its services from Marlboro in Sandton following a protest on Tuesday morning.
Spokesperson Amanda Qithi says the decision was made due to threats against technicians.
"We will return to the areas when we deem it safe for our employees to operate. Their safety is important to us."
Another protest was reported on Tuesday morning in Doornkop, Soweto, over a prolonged power outage.
