Eskom eases load shedding as generating units return to service
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Eskom is set to ease the levels of load shedding to stages 1 and stage 3 from Tuesday.
This after the power utility placed the country on stage 6 last week due to a cold snap which put the struggling power utility under pressure to provide enough electricity.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokoena says the lower levels of load shedding are due to the return to service of six generating units at Kriel, Lethabo, Majuba, Matla and Arnot power stations over the weekend.
“Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 4pm today (Monday) until 5am on Tuesday, as previously communicated. Thereafter, stage 1 load shedding will be implemented from 5am until 4pm, followed by stage 3 load shedding from 4pm until 5am on Wednesday.”
This pattern will continue to be implemented daily until further notice.
“Breakdowns have reduced to 15 747MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 1 946MW,” said Mokwena.
“The delay in returning to service a generating unit each at Kendal, Matla and two generating units at Tutuka power stations is contributing to the current capacity constraints.”
