Ex-ANC big wig Thoko Mashiane joins ActionSA in Mpumalanga
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
ActionSA has announced Thoko Mashiane as the party’s new chairperson in Mpumalanga.
The 67-year-old is a former ANC Women's League provincial chairperson.
Mashiane is also a former Ehlanzeni district municipal manager and served in various capacities in the province including being the first deputy chairperson of the South Africa Local Government Association.
In 2004 Mashiane resigned from the municipality after a KMPG forensic audit implicated her and two others in an alleged irregular loan and property deals to the tune of R100 million.
However, the party's national chairperson Michael Beaumont says she has been cleared of all allegations before joining the party.
"Thoko suffered terrible attacks from the people in the ANC, it is often a common place for South Africans who stand up to what is wrong is people come to vilify them, people saw to smear her name in all kinds of allegations and we have assessed those things. She participated in the investigations and in the process her name was cleared."
Mashiane says her decision to join ActionSA was persuaded by current events in the country.
"I joined ActionSA because I want to fix South Africa, I was pursued by the shenanigans and all the things happening in our country, I can't be at home and be angry, I realised that I need to stand up and do something about it.”
