Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald says his party is committed to rebuilding the Department of Correctional Services.
Groenewald was confirmed as the new Correctional Services Minister by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday.
He succeeds the ANC's Ronald Lamola, who is now the minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
Groenewald says his party accepted the position in the government of national unity to help facilitate stability and progress in South Africa.
"The Freedom Front Plus will play an active role in South Africa's new political landscape through the Ministry of Correctional Services in the government of national unity, which comprises an integral part of an important national security cluster.
"The party's participation in the executive authority will ensure that the right policy is implemented to create equal opportunities for everyone in the country.
"The decision was also made in order to promote the FF Plus policy directions, with the sole aim of rebuilding South Africa and getting it back on track.”
Meanwhile, Al Jama-ah leader Ganief Hendricks expressed gratitude for his appointment as the Deputy Minister of Social Development.
The ANC's Sissi Tolashe is the new minister of Social Development, taking over from Lindiwe Zulu.
"I am also grateful to President Cyril Ramaphosa for giving me a minister who will bring all women and assist us in eradicating poverty in South Africa.
"Eradicating poverty must be one of the greatest missions that anyone can have, and I am very proud to be part of it.”
