First heatwave of the summer grips the interior
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The first week of October will see temperatures in Gauteng soaring significantly on Monday and Tuesday as a heatwave blankets large parts of the interior.
Maximum temperatures in Pretoria are expected to rise to 37 degrees by Tuesday.
According to the forecast from the SA Weather Services (SAWS), the heat wave is also expected over Limpopo and Mpumalanga and mainly in the Western Bushveld in Limpopo and the western Highveld in Mpumalanga on Tuesday.
SAWS forecaster Wayne Venter says residents will only get some relief by Tuesday evening.
“On Sunday late afternoon we had reached the maximum thresholds over Gauteng. It was quiet a warm weekend and we are expecting these temperatures to continue today and tomorrow.

“By Tuesday evening we should be out of the heatwave category. However, temperatures are expected to rise quiet significantly today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday), with maximums in the mid to upper 30s over parts of Gauteng especially over the north we have temperatures around 37 and 36 degrees for Pretoria.”
Venter also adds that there is little chance of any rain in Gauteng this week.
“We have a strong high-pressure system that has been dominating. There’s a small chance of thunderstorms along the escarpment areas in Mpumalanga during tomorrow, but now there is a slight chance over the weekend in southern Gauteng and eastern Free State however the chances are small.”
