FlySafair gives passengers option to ‘block’ middle seat as flights take off during Covid-19

Low cost airline FlySafair will offer nervous passengers the option of "blocking" the middle seat as domestic flights resume during level 3 of the lockdown.
The option of leaving the middle seat open will cost you R750.
Domestic flights for business purposes have been given the green light by government.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula recently announced that aircraft will be allowed to operate at full capacity.

"The risk of Covid-19 infection onboard a commercial passenger airliner is lower than in many other confined spaces,” he explained.
"All our commercial aircraft are fitted with the High Efficiency Particulate Air filters. These are manufactured to the same standard as those used in hospital operating theatres and industrial clean rooms, with the same efficacy of 99.97% in removing viruses.”
But FlySafair says it understands that some people might be nervous flying during the coronavirus pandemic.
"We understand, of course, some customers would prefer to be able to implement some social distancing,” says FlySafair’s Kirby Gordon.
"So on our website we have a facility available on the seats selection page where you can ask to pay a small fee to have the middle seat in your row blocked out.”
Gordon says the R750 will be paid per person.
"The fee to block out the middle seat is R750 per person so either person on either side would be eligible for that amount.”
