Former DA MP Gouws to appear in Equality Court
Updated | By ALGOA FM
The former DA parliamentarian Renaldo Gouws is expected to appear in the Equality Court in Gqeberha on Thursday.
The case relates to alleged hate speech and racist utterances made by Gouws.
Gouws was suspended in June after a 2010 video of him making racial comments using the K-word surfaced on social media just days after he was sworn in as a DA MP.
The South African Human Rights Commission then dragged Gouws to court.
The SAHRC is of the opinion that even though the video was filmed in 2010, it reignited the pain it caused when it first surfaced.
The Democratic Alliance has since terminated Gouw's membership, which meant that he had to forfeit his seat in Parliament.
Gouws will oppose the SAHRC's application.
