Four people have been arrested for public violence following a protest action along the N12 in Lenasia.
Nana’s Farm Informal Settlement residents took to the streets on Monday morning to protest service delivery issues.
It led to the closure of the N12 in the area.
Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says some roads in the area have since been reopened.
“Police continue to monitor the situation. The situation was tense earlier, with reports of a vehicle being torched, but police were deployed and managed to disperse and contain the crowds using rubber bullets.
“The situation is currently calm and under control, and officials have managed to open the Baker Asvat Drive, K43 and the N12 East.”
Fihla says they are in the process of clearing and opening the N12 West.
