Gang attempts to hijack truck carrying booze R21
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The R21 in Kempton Park had to be closed off to traffic on Wednesday morning after a gang of unknown men attempted to hijack a truck on the highway east of Johannesburg.

The truck was travelling northbound on the R21 when it jack-knifed.
Ekurhuleni metro police spokesperson Thabiso Makgato says the truck was transporting bottles of alcoholic beverages.
"In the early hours of this morning (Wednesday), a truck was hijacked carrying its load of beverages of Ice Tropez. On the R21 north at the Voortrekker off-ramp, the road is closed off to traffic due to the hijacked truck that has blocked the road."
Makgato has urged motorists to use alternative routes.
"Motorists are advised to use the Atlas off-ramp as an alternative route to get back to the Kempton Park CBD. It is a crime scene, and it is still active, and law enforcers are attending to it."
