Gauteng ANC wants Ramaphosa re-elected, Mashatile as deputy

The ANC in Gauteng has endorsed Cyril Ramphosa for a second term as the president of the governing party.

The Gauteng provincial executive committee also endorsed current ANC treasurer Paul Mashatile for the position of deputy president.
The Top Six slate includes Limpopo ANC chairperson Stanley Mathatabatha as National Chairperson and former Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane as the Deputy Secretary General.
In a statement, the party says the re-election of Ramaphosa will ensure renewal and unity within the party.
"Against this background, the PEC will engage and influence all structures, particularly branches of the ANC as the basic unit, the nucleus, and the lifeline of the ANC on its preferred leadership. In the same breath, the PEC has mandated the Provincial Working Committee working with the officials to engage with other provinces on the leadership question."
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa told reporters at the White House in Washington on Friday that he will wait for nominations from the branches before accepting the nomination for President of the party.
"I will wait for that nomination process, so it is not for me to say what the stance is now, it is for those who are nominating to do their work and make their preferences and thereafter I will be asked whether I accept the nomination or not."
The ANC will hold its 54 National Conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg in December to elect new leadership.
Some of the suggested contenders for the ANC President position include Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and former Minister Zweli Mkhize.
