A video, posted by former broadcaster Tom London on Saturday, has gone viral on social media.

London, who is a patient at the hospital, can be seen in the video complaining about the alleged rude attitude of doctors at the health facility and showcasing the eroding hospital infrastructure.

In the video captioned “Welcome to Helen Joseph Circus Hospital”, London accused the doctors of lacking empathy and compassion for patients.

This led other social media users to share their “horror stories” about the treatment received at the hospital.

Gauteng Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says patients are urged to report their grievances through proper channels.

“While the matter is being investigated, it is important to note that the department launched a provincial campaign nine months ago called ‘I Serve With A Smile’, which is aimed at improving staff attitude and patient experience of care. This programme is currently being rolled out at all healthcare facilities.

“Furthermore, the GDoH has established an internal infrastructure unit which has now developed a maintenance and refurbishment programme. Helen Joseph and other facilities are earmarked for further maintenance as part of efforts to improve the infrastructure across facilities.

“The GDoH urges patients to report their complaints to the quality assurance offices located at each facility when they are not happy with the service standards,” added Modiba.
