Germiston and Knights train route opened after protest
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) says the
train route between Germiston and Knights has been re-opened.
This comes after residents went on the rampage and vandalised the station in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Tracks were barricaded with burning tyres.
Prasa spokesperson, Nana Zenani, says protesters also invaded the train station and threatened security personnel.
However, commuters have been given the assurance that the train schedule returned to normal a few hours later.
"Several trains have safely passed Knights, entering Elandsfontein after the technical teams and PRASA security have declared the area safe," says Zenani.
