Its subsidiary Citiliner is also expected to stop all operations on Valentine’s Day.

The company confirmed the news on social media on Wednesday.

“Services will run until 14 February 2021. Passengers with tickets booked for services after this date will be refunded.”

It’s unclear what drove the company to shut its doors after 37 years in service.

Since it started operating in 1984, the company claims to have clocked some 25 million kilometres spanning over Southern Africa.

According to the company’s website, Greyhound boasts close to a million passengers a year while Citiliner carries half a million a year.

The decision to close down caught South Africans by surprise.
