The Department of Basic Education hosted the top matric achievers at an event in Randburg on Thursday.
The 34 matriculants who made the country proud attributed their achievements to hard work and dedication.
Speaking to Jacaranda FM news, Jaskaran Rajaruthnam from Westville Boy’s High School in KwaZulu-Natal advised the matric class of 2024 to study hard, but also make time to rest.
"I started reading notes just before the year began, to get slightly ahead of everyone else.
"During the year, I would read and practice with past exam papers during the early hours of the morning.
"I did not go to bed late because you need to get your sleep that is the one thing that people forget, we need to rest.
"The advice I would give to the class of 2024 is that, they should work hard, don't fall behind, secondly do a little bit of work every single day."
Kamohelo Mosikili, one of the matric 2023 top achievers from Selelekela Secondary School in the Free State, said his biggest challenge was trying to juggle load shedding, the water crisis and his study time.
"I really cannot express how I am feeling right now. I am so overwhelmed, I was not expecting this.
"The crisis like loadshedding and the water crisis in the country made studying a little bit tough".
Motshekga will announce the national and provincial pass rates on Thursday evening.
