Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The Hawks have arrested two suspects believes to be part of a syndicate who smuggle stolen cars across the border.
The two suspects appeared in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
Hawks spokesperson Bonnie Nxumalo says the suspects were nabbed while attempting to flee on foot.
“The team proceeded to Edenvale where men in a Ford Fiesta were spotted while removing a Nissan X-trail from a tow truck.
“Further investigation led the team to residential premises where another vehicle, a Toyota Etios Cross was recovered.
“Laptops, cell phones, vehicle documentation as well as vehicle registration documents were confiscated. The X-trail was hijacked from Alexandra whereas the Fiesta was hijacked from Mamelodi East and the Etios was stolen from Honeydew few weeks ago.”
