National Health Laboratory Services restored after cyber attack
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Department of Health on Wednesday confirmed the restoration of all services at the National Health Laboratory Service following a cyber attack in June this year.
The cyber-attack led to a huge backlog in processing laboratory tests at all public health facilities, causing longer waiting times for test results.
It also saw Gauteng Health make use of private laboratories for emergency cases and critical tests.
Health Department spokesperson Foster Mohale said plans are underway to prevent and manage future unforeseen disruptions.
"Following the recent hacking incident, Dr Phaahla urged the entity to take decisive steps to fortify its information systems against future threats,
"These improvements reflect its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of service delivery. It is strengthening its systems to ensure that any future challenge is met with minimal disruption to its essential operations, allowing it to continue providing critical health services to the country with confidence and integrity."
