High traffic volumes out of Gauteng ahead of long weekend

Motorists have been warned of high traffic volumes on major routes out of Gauteng.
The N1 north towards Limpopo, the N4 east towards Mpumalanga, the N3 south towards KwaZulu-Natal and the N4 to Emalahleni.
Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Obed Sibasa says there are at least 800 to 1000 vehicles per hour at toll plazas.
“That’s due to motorists driving to different holiday destinations, taking advantage of the Women’s Day long weekend.
“We advise drivers to drive safely.”
Earlier this year President Cyril Ramaphosa closed the borders in and out of Gauteng in a bid to contain the runaway Covid-19 infections in the province.
But under the current lockdown level 3, travel is less restricted.
Sibasa further cautions motorists to keep to the road rules.
“We have mounted road block monitoring national, provincial and local routes.”
