Jackson Mthembu: Parliament must be respected
Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
ANC Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu says the rules of Parliament cannot simply be disregarded.
Speaking in front of the National Assembly ahead of President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address, Mthembu made it clear that anyone who breaks the rules of Parliament will be asked to leave.
“It is as easy as that, if you break the rules, you will be chucked out,” he says.
Mthembu also touched on the issue of land redistribution, saying the ANC will be looking to the president for guidance on this matter.
“As the head of government, he needs to address land issues. We have been talking and talking, now is the time to walk the walk,’ Mthembu says.
He adds that it is time to implement fundamental changes when it comes to the ownership of the South African economy.
“We have given the president the broad parameters, but the economy still resides for some white males that are not even necessarily from South Africa,’ Mthembu says.
