Jesus Dome: The aftermath

Congregation members at the Durban Christian Centre in Mayville say the fire that destroyed their church last night will not douse their spirits. 

The Jesus Dome adjacent to the N3 freeway was engulfed by flames last night. 

Many of the congregation cried as they watched the popular auditorium burn to the ground. 

The disaster came just two weeks before a major conference was scheduled to take place there, featuring international gospel singer, Donnie McClurkin. 

By late on Tuesday night Durban firefighters and other emergency services battled the massive fire at one of Durban's landmarks.

The fire started shortly before 6pm with eyewitnesses describing huge flames and smoke billowing high into the sky.
