Joburg Water truck torched in Lenasia

A Johannesburg Water jetting truck was torched by protesting residents in Lenasia South on Monday.
The entity said on Wednesday that its officials had just finished attending to a sewer blockage in the area, and were heading to their next job when they were attacked.
The officials were also robbed off their belongings, including their cell phones and wallets.
Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said a case has since been opened with the police and the matter is under investigation.
"When they (officials) saw the group of protestors while driving, they tried to get away, but the protestors went in their direction and threw rocks at the truck, forcing it to come to a stop.
"The protestors pulled the team out of the truck, stole their belongings, and set the truck on fire. Fortunately, the officials were not physically harmed.
"These kinds of violent acts are not uncommon, where City of Johannesburg officials are intimidated and attacked while on duty and stopped from performing their service delivery duties.”
