Kluyts’ lifeless body was found at the George Lea Park in Sandton, just hours after she failed to complete a park run in October last year.

The 21-year-old man was arrested the next month – and charged with the murder of the primary school teacher – who was also pregnant at the time.

The accused remains in custody after bail was denied in December.

Since the Alexandra regional court denied him bail, the accused has made at least two more court appearances – where he faces charges of premeditated murder, rape, and robbery.

At his last appearance in May, the case against the 22-year-old student was postponed to July.

At the bail stage, the man told the court he found Kirsten Kluyts’ body at the bottom of an embankment and after touching her, he decided to take her clothes to avoid being wrongfully accused of killing her.

He was later seen on CCTV footage wearing Kluyts’ blue T-shirt, which was presented as evidence in court.

While insisting that he found Kluyts already deceased, when denying bail, the court found he had taken steps to avoid being found and eliminated evidence that could connect him to the crime.
