Kwinana’s bail bid to continue on Thursday

The bail application of former South African Airways (SAA) board member Yakhe Kwinana has been remanded to Thursday in the East London Magistrate’s Court.

Kwinana faces multiple charges, including extortion, malicious damage to property, and unlawful evictions in the province.
She was arrested in Johannesburg last week, and her case was later transferred from the Randburg Magistrates Court to East London.
During her court appearance, Kwinana maintained her innocence, stating that the charges against her were baseless.
“The charges against me are frivolous and untrue. If the NPA had conducted a proper investigation, they would have found that there was a legal eviction order in place,” she argued.
She further claimed that her arrest was mishandled and that she suffered abuse in the process.
Kwinana is currently out on bail for a separate fraud case at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
The case involves allegations that she failed to disclose a conflict of interest.
Addressing the extortion charges, Kwinana insisted that there was an agreement with her tenants regarding payments.
“In fact, they did pay, and I have witnesses who can confirm that they agreed to pay,” she said.
The court is expected to resume hearing her bail application on Thursday.
