Leaked matric papers should be re-written – education expert

An education expert believes pupils will have to rewrite the two leaked matric examination papers.
The Department of Basic Education has confirming it is investigating the leaking of a Physical Science Paper 2, in addition to a Mathematics Paper 2 which leaked earlier this month.

UKZN School of Education’s Professor Vimolan Mudaly believes pupils will have no choice but to write the exams again.
"Students have already studied now and the material is still fresh in their heads. They need to get into the mode writing as quickly as possible, rather than waiting for a period of time.
"We know the department has supplementary papers that are always set, meanwhile they are already available and can easily be written at short notice. I'm not sure when this will be done but certainly, I think as quickly as possible.”
Last week, the Maths Paper 2 was spread on a Whatsapp group hours before it was written, and it has since been established that Grade 12s across 8 of the 9 provinces saw it.
The Hawks have also been roped in to probe the paper leak.
