Lesufi was speaking at a celebratory event honouring the province's top achievers.

Earlier this week, Lesufi who is also the former MEC for Education in Gauteng, took to social media platform X to express his disappointment over the separation of final exams for matric.

South Africa currently has exams for the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) separate from the National Senior Certificate (NSC) administered by the Department of Basic Education.

"We can’t have a situation where other children are perceived to be writing a poor quality exam, while others are seen to be writing a quality examination.

“All these children are South African children. All these children are going to the same universities. All these children deserve quality if there is quality,” he said.

Lesufi also asked for benefits to be made available for all the children "There must be no one that gets their results early and get accepted at Universities and others get their results later.

If this children belong to South Africa, treat them equally," added Lesufi.

Lesufi said it should be the task of the new education minister that will take up the position to address this issue.

"We don't want to disband any examination, we just want quality education for all our children," he said.
