Lesufi vows to end 'stone age' water crisis
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Premier Panyaza Lesufi has apologised to the residents of Gauteng over the ongoing water supply crisis.

The water cuts forced the City of Johannesburg to implement water throttling measures late last year in attempt to keep taps running.
Lesufi delivered his State of the Province Address in Pretoria on Monday.
"I want to apologise, wholeheartedly, to all those people who struggle to access water in our province. This is unacceptable, we must intervene decisively and call for accountability"
"We can’t claim to be a smart province, and we still subject our people to this stone age problem."
The premier said City Power will take over the electricity supply of the Eikenhof pumping station, while Eskom will control the Emfuleni pumping station to immediately restore power.
The power failures are often blamed for water supply interruption.
"It is the power failures in these water pumping stations that have led to the challenges of depletion of water in our reservoirs," the premier said.
"We are at an advanced stage to repair leaks and replace ageing pipes."
The Ministry of Water and Sanitation and municipalities have established a war room to monitor and resolve any issues with the water supply.
