Limpopo ‘excited’ at 7% improvement in matric pass rate
Updated | By Lesetja Makhura
Limpopo achieved a 7.4% increase in its pass rate during the 2023 National Senior Certificate exams compared to the previous year.

The Free State was once again the top achieving province with an 89.3% overall pass rate, while Limpopo showed the most improvement.
The province achieved a pass rate of 79.5%, the seventh best of the nine provinces, followed by Mpumalanga with 77% and Northern Cape with 75.8%.
The results were announced by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, in Gauteng on Thursday evening.
Limpopo MEC for Education Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya is also expected to present the provincial matric results in Polokwane on Friday.
"As the province, we are excited about the 7.4% pass rate increase. We were given a target to perform at 80%, and we were short of 0.5%,” said the MEC’s spokesperson Mike Maringa.
"However, we are the most improved province in the country, and by the look of things, if you look at our history from 2021 up until now, we moved from the 60s, 70s, now we are almost at 80%."
