Police in Gauteng are probing the death of an unidentified man in Hillbrow.
According to police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini, the man was shot at by an unknown assailant on Monday.
This comes after tensions spiked between locals and foreign nationals in the city.
"Apparently the bullet came from a crowd who had gathered there," says Gauteng police spokesperson, Lungelo Dlamini.
"At this stage police are still interviewing several people to establish the motive for the shooting. No one has been arrested for the murder."
The unrest spread to several other areas including Malvern and Tembisa.

More than 90 people have since been arrested for public violence and possession of stolen property.
