A look inside Limpopo drug lab

Police in Limpopo arrested two suspects after they discovered a drug laboratory with different equipment, bags of mandrax powder and stolen vehicles in Groblersdal.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says they received information regarding the suspects who are involved in vehicle theft, carjacking and dealing in and manufacturing drugs at Thabakhubedu village in the Dennilton policing precinct.
"The information was acted upon and two suspects aged 26 and 39 respectively were arrested. The other two suspects managed to evade arrest," says Mojapelo.
The following were confiscated during the raid:
- Two stolen motor vehicles that were reported stolen in January 2009 in Thabazimbi.
- Equipment for the manufacturing of Mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R2 million
- One presser machine
- One mixer machine
- Industrial stoves
- Different chemicals that are utilised to make mandrax.
- Five bags containing mandrax powder, each weighing 25kg. The total estimated street value of the mandrax powder is R10 million.
- R29 820 in cash
Mojapelo says the arrested suspects will be charged with manufacturing and dealing in drugs and possession of stolen vehicles.
"The operation lasted several hours until 4.00am this morning. More arrests are expected. The suspects will appear in Moutse Magistrate's Court soon," says Mojapelo.
