Lusikisiki massacre: Seven accused to appear in court
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The seven suspects alleged to be behind the Lusikisiki mass murder are due to appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The group will be appearing together in court for the first time.
Eighteen people, including 15 women, were shot dead in two homesteads in Ngobozana village in September.
The alleged orchestrator, Mzukisi Ndamase, was apprehended at a correctional facility where he is serving a life sentence for murder and robbery.
Ndamase will now join his co-accused, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, Aphiwe "AP" Ndende, 25, Lwando Antony Abi, 33, and Bonga Hintsa, 31, Zenande Paya, 38, and Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36, who have all since abandoned bail.
The suspects are facing 18 charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Speaking to the media, Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Nothetheleli Mene says police are searching for an eighth suspect.
"There is a reward that we have made available for someone who could get the eighth suspect because we believe that he is the last person that is still outstanding in the case of the 18 people that were killed in Lusikisiki."
