Lynne Brown quits as MP
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
The African National Congress (ANC) in Parliament has confirmed that former Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown, has resigned as an MP.
Brown was not included in President Cyril Ramaphosa's first Cabinet announced earlier this week.
She has been mired in allegations of state capture and reports that family members and friends were given lucrative Eskom contracts during her tenure as Minister of Public Enterprises.
Spokesperson for the ANC Chief Whip's office, Nonceba Mhlauli, says Brown served as an MP since 2014.
"She has expressed her gratitude in having served the people of South Africa and thanked the ANC for having given her the opportunity to do so," says Mhlauli. "We are confident that she will continue serving the country and our movement in other capacities in future. We wish her well."
