Makhura appoints new Health MEC, reshuffles cabinet
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has appointed Dr. Nomathemba Mokgethi as the province’s new Health MEC, replacing the axed Bandile Masuku.

Mokgethi previously held the position of Social Development MEC.
She will be replaced by Morakane Mosupyoe, who was the MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment.
Mosupyoe will be replaced by former Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau.
"Mokgethi has 27 years’ experience working in both local government and the health sector. Her training is in health care, she was a nurse in one of our local districts in the West Rand and has a master's in nursing science and a doctorate in literature and philosophy from Unisa.

"This is a reshuffle that will strengthen team Gauteng's response both to Covid-19 and the challenge of rebuilding the economy and responding to the pressures that many millions of people are facing, especially those who are unemployed," said Makhura.
He said a team of experts has been appointed to assist Mokgethi in her new role.
Tau will be sworn in as MEC next week.
