The death toll from the mass shooting at a tavern in Soweto has risen to 16, Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko announced on Tuesday.
The Soweto shooting is one in a string of tavern killings that has rocked the country.
Mazibuko briefed the media on Tuesday following a prayer session with families of victims of Mdlalose's tavern shooting in Orlando East.
Fifteen people, among them two women, were killed when assailants pulled up in a minibus taxi and began randomly firing high-calibre guns the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mazibuko said the latest victim succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
“As the provincial government we have been working around the clock in assisting families as majority of them will be going to KZN and the Eastern Cape. Social workers are also doing assessments of the families because it may not be known who might have dependents.”
Taxi associations and a funeral insurance service will also be assisting the families of the victims.
“We will also be working together with the long-distance taxi associations because they are complaining about transport. Avbob have also come on board to be able to assist families with the burial,” said Mazibuko.
