Mathunjwa arrives in Rustenburg

Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) president Joseph Mathunjwa was well received at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Phokeng, near Rustenburg, on Monday.

Jubilant union members ululated, punched the air, and waved union flags and banners as he walked onto the pitch.
 
He was expected to brief workers about developments on their attempts to reach a wage settlement with platinum mining companies.
 
Marshals formed a guard of honour. The crowd erupted as he walked around the stadium.
 
He was flanked by treasurer Jimmy Gama, secretary Jeff Mphahlele, and Bishop Johannes Seoka.
 
Amcu members at Lonmin, Impala Platinum and Anglo American Platinum have been on strike since January 23, demanding a basic monthly salary of R12,500.
