Mkhize: Focus needs to be on behaviour, not ‘fighting’ regulations
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has urged South Africans to focus on changing their behaviour instead of “fighting” the government’s lockdown regulations.
Mkhize was speaking at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on Saturday during a ceremony to mark a donation of 50 ventilators from the US government.
The donation comes amid a surge in Covid-19 infections and deaths over the past week as the country eased its lockdown to level 3.

“Let’s not lose focus by fighting regulations but what we can do to change behaviour,” said Mhkize.
“Now the issue of behavioural change becomes the crux of the prevention. It is not going to be what the nurses, doctors or government can do but what each and everyone of us can do.”
The move to lockdown level three has seen a drastic increase in the number of coronavirus infections in the country.
To date the number of Covid-19 infections stands at 43 434 with the number of fatalities at 908.
The Western Cape, which is the epicentre of the outbreak, accounts for 66% of those infections.
