More young people migrating from Limpopo to Gauteng - Census

Statistician-general Risenga Maluleke says between 2011 and 2022 about 114 000 young people left Limpopo for Gauteng.
Maluleke officially handed over the Census 2022 results to the Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha in Polokwane on Friday.
The headcount shows Limpopo's population increased by 1.2 million between 2011 and 2022.
The province now has over 6.6 million people as of February 2022, which is a 10.6% of the country's population.
"The other catch is that we are losing a lot of young people, they leave as young stars, they go to Gauteng the biggest contributor to the population of Gauteng in the country is not because there are more children born in Gauteng.
"The two provinces that have more children born are Limpopo and the Eastern Cape," Maluleke said.
The province has 3.5 million females.
"We have more women, 52,8% which represent 3.5 million females and 47.2% which represent 3.1 million men.
"What happens here is that this province has migratory pattern, so the men leave their wives and families and they go and work in other provinces in terms of serving and attending to the needs of economic empowerment from the way of work."
