Motshekga: Not all schools will reopen on June 1
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says not all schools will be able to open their doors for grades 7s and 12s on June 1.
She visited three schools in Gauteng on Thursday to assess their state of readiness.
Speaking at Hoërskool Kempton Park, Motshekga said some schools have asked for more time to prepare.
"Some provinces are saying to me that their PPEs (personal protective equipment) are still on their way. The Northern Cape said to me because of distance their service provider will not be able to deliver by Monday.
“That is fine, what they need to do is claw back on time lost."

She said KwaZulu-Natal has asked to open on Thursday instead of Monday, but at the same time she is satisfied that Gauteng and the Western Cape are ready to reopen on June 1.
Motshekga said schools that will reopen on Monday will focus on administrative issues and gradually start lessons.
