Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga's State of the Capital Address (SOCA) has been disrupted by ANC councillors who want proceedings to be postponed so they can honour the death of Solomon Mahlangu.
Listen to the news bulletin here:
Mahlangu was hanged today 38 years ago.
ANC members overturned tables and heckled the Speaker as they continued to sing and disrupt proceedings.
ANC councillor Lesego Makhubela said they have always commemorated the death of Solomon Mahlangu on this day.
"Solomon Mahlangu is not a joke. He is a son of Tshwane who paid the ultimate price. He paid the ultimate price of death and for the past 22 years that is what we have been doing. We have respected that his blood had nourished the tree of freedom," said Makhubela.

"It is opening old wounds. It is opening us to pain and torture and t the second hanging of Solomon Mahlangu," said Makhubela.
Meanwhile, Msimanga said the address will take place.
"Even if we have to start at 10.00pm tonight, proceedings will continue. The people of Tshwane deserve to know what this government is bringing to them. The people of Tshwane deserve to hear how we are going to change their lives," said Msimanga.
