Murder-accused De Jager to testify in Cape court
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
Murder accused Johannes Christiaan de Jager is to testify on Wednesday, the Western Cape High Court heard on Tuesday.
De Jager is accused of murdering an 18-year-old prostitute and a 16-year-old girl from Mpumalanga in January last year.
His counsel, Sakkie Maartens, told the court that De Jager and others would testify for the defence.
In Wednesday's proceedings, the State would recall a witness briefly, to clarify a technicality, and the defence's case would likely start with De Jager's testimony, Maartens said.
Tuesday's proceedings, which lasted for less than an hour, was used to sort exhibit documents into numerical order.
De Jager has pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, including robbery and the rape and murder of prostitute Hiltina Alexander, and teenager Charmaine Mare.
