The Mangosuthu University of Technology in KZN has suspended a lecturer who is facing allegations of ‘sex for marks’.

MUT released a statement on Friday morning following a report by the Daily News about accusations that marks were being traded for sexual favours and money.
Scores of civil engineering students had reportedly been victims of the lecturer, who the varsity says was suspended at the beginning of the month pending the outcome of an investigation.
The university said it has “intentionally kept the matter confidential, as maintaining trust and protecting individuals’ rights are of the utmost importance”.
“We believe that maintaining confidentiality at this stage would encourage potential witnesses to come forward with crucial evidence to the investigation,” MUT continued.
“The Vice-Chancellor and Principal, who has consistently emphasised her commitment to an empathetic and inclusive leadership style, has clarified that any misconduct allegations will be taken seriously.”
MUT vowed to provide updates on its investigation “when appropriate”.
