New Limpopo area to be named Collins Chabane Municipality
The new municipality, currently known as LIM 345, will be named during a ceremony in two weeks' time.
Limpopo MEC for Co-Operative Governance Makoma Makoropetja, made the announcement while addressing mourners at the funeral of the late Chief Xithlangoma James Xigalo of the Vanwanati clan in Malamulele in Limpopo.
Makoropetja said 313 houses have already been completed, out of the total allocation of 440 houses to be built during the 2016/17 financial year.
"For this new financial year, we have doubled this allocation to the total of 800 houses to be completed", she said.
The MEC added they will start with construction in the month of October, with the plan to complete the housing project within the next 6 months.
The LIM 345 Municipality has been marred by violent protests, with residents of the Vuwani area insisting to not form part of the newly formed area.
However, these residents lifted their shutdown of the area two weeks ago to allow learners to complete their final year exams.
