Newborn abandoned on Free State road
Updated | By OFM
Free State police request the public to assist in locating a woman who abandoned her newborn baby on the R712 road.
Police spokesperson in the Free State, Mmako Mophiring, says residents discovered the baby last week. He says that the baby's umbilical cord was still attached and the newborn was sent to the hospital to receive medical attention.
He says the police were notified about the incident by Thebe District Hospital in Harrismith on Saturday.
Mophiring further adds that the police have since launched investigations into attempted murder.
He requested the public who may have information about the whereabouts of the mother to contact the Vrede Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit at 079-502-7871, or contact their nearest police station.
