Nomvula Mokonyane's Mthatha hotel room burgled
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Water and sanitation minister Nomvula Mokonyane was robbed in her hotel room in Mthatha today.
She was asleep when an unknown number of suspects entered the room in the early hours of this morning.
Her spokesperson Mlimandlela Ndamase says Mokonyane was in Mthatha attending the wedding of a relative, and had on Friday delivered an OR Tambo Memorial Lecture at Walter Sisulu University.
"Indications are that the intruders forcefully opened a window leading into the minister's room, in which she was sleeping at the time," he says.
A handbag, cellphones and tablet were among the items stolen.
Ndamase confirms the minister was not harmed.
A case of burglary and theft has been opened with the Mthatha Central Police Station.
