NW alleged insurance killer arrested

A North West woman has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating two murders and an attempted murder, for insurance claims in September this year.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says 38-year-old Charmaine Bila was re-arrested in November after she was linked to the alleged hit on Sandy Maleshane and her boyfriend at a house in Khuma, near Klerksdorp.
The man managed to flee the scene and received medical attention, while Maleshane was declared dead on the scene.
"Following an intensive and prosecution led investigation, Bila was arrested after allegations suggested that she hired two hitmen to kill the victim for insurance claim. Ensuing investigations linked the accused with another murder allegedly committed in Klerksdorp a few hours before the Khuma incident on 24 September 2023."
Mokgwabone says further investigation linked Bila to the death of Thys Safatsa, whose body was found burned in Klerksdorp, and an inquest docket was opened.
"The meticulous investigation with the guidance of prosecution, linked Bila with the incident and the inquest docket was changed to murder after it came out that Sefatsa was also killed for insurance claim," Mokgwabone added.
Bila reportedly bagged over R300,000 in insurance claims for Maleshane and Safatsa who are relatives.
This comes just over two weeks after another North West woman, Agnes Setshwantsho, was arrested for the alleged murder of her niece, and subsequent fraudulent insurance claim.
Setshwantsho appeared before the Molopo Magistrates Court where bail proceedings were postponed to 6 December.
Meanwhile, Bila remains in police custody until she returns to the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court on Thursday.
