Over 150 cases awaiting the new Public Protector

There's a strong likelihood that Thuli Madonsela's successor will inherit more than 150 complex cases that have not yet been investigated, or only partially so.

The outgoing Public Protector says this is due to a lack of resources in her office as a result of poor funding.
Madonsela was recognised with the 11th Diakonia Human Rights Award in Durban last night.
"If the Public Protector gets more resources and can tackle these cases where there's over expenditure - we could save more money.
"If we invest in the Public Protector's Office - a lot of money that is going into causes where it doesn't belong could be stopped before it goes there that which has already gone could be clawed back into the system," she said.
Busisiwe Mkhwebane is set to take over the reins from Madonsela when her term ends next month.
