Police investigating abuse allegations during a discplince camp in Centurion

Gauteng Education Member of the Executive Council (MEC) Matome Chiloane says police are investigating allegations of abuse during a school discipline camp held at a private camping site near the Hennops River in Centurion.
This comes after two boys allegedly drowned while attending a discipline camp held by a non-governmental organisation called Rising Stars Generation on Monday.
The two learners from the Daveyton Skills School in Benoni drowned in a man-made dam located at the site of the camp.
It's alleged that one of the learners suddenly ran towards a nearby river close to the campsite entrance and the second learner followed in an attempt to bring him back.
Both learners drowned.
The MEC visited the bereaved family on Wednesday afternoon.
Chiloane says the department recieved complaints from families that their children were abused during the excursion.
He added that complaints will be investigated by an independent law firm.
"The family has brought to our attention that the kids were abused there, they were assaulted as part of exercise because they said it was a displince camp.
"Those are the answers that the law firm will bring to us and when there are areas that we need to go report to the police or community safety to deal with this, we're are going to do so.
"This is some information that is coming up slowly in bits and pieces and it's quite unfortunate as ideally I should have recived this information from the principal."
