Protestors close N4 near Emalahleni

Mpumalanga community safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi says a protest on the N4 turned violent on Wednesday morning with protesters blocking both sides of the highway.
The protest, which started on Tuesday evening, is causing havoc on the road before Emalahleni near KG Mall.
Some protesters are reportedly also looting trucks.
“The protest has turned violent, and the road is closed on both sides. Our traffic officers are on both entrances of the road to try and redirect traffic to other alternative routes. So we are appealing to anyone who intends to travel towards Emalahleni via the N4 or vice versa to try and use an alternative route,” said Mmusi.
Mmusi says they do not know what sparked the protest.
“We do not know what prompted the protest, but it has been going on and off for some time. We do not have a problem with them protesting but we want them to allow motorists and other road users to be able to go wherever they want to go without interference.
“The police are working very hard to make sure that the situation is normalised as soon as possible because this is a very important road that links Gauteng and Mpumalanga as well as the country, Swaziland and Mozambique.”
